How
WIC Supports Breastfeeding
|
 |
WIC
clinics are breastfeeding friendly. At WIC, we know
that babies are born to be breastfed. Breast milk is
especially designed for babies and changes with your babys
ever growing needs. Breastfeeding provides nourishment
and emotional bonding all at once! We support breastfeeding
mothers and their babies by providing education, information,
counseling, videos, and special events such as World Breastfeeding
Week activities.
|
 |
WIC
has Breastfeeding Coordinators on staff to provide counseling
to mothers with breastfeeding questions and concerns.
Many coordinators are Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC)
with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
All staff receives continual breastfeeding training.
WIC can provide you with support when making your decision
on infant feeding.
|
 |
Many
WIC clinics have breast pumps available for breastfeeding
mothers.
|
 |
Many
WIC clinics also have breastfeeding peer counselors.
They are moms like you who can provide information, offer
support, and help you with any concerns. Peer counselors
are specially trained to provide you with accurate information
that will help make your breastfeeding experiences as comfortable
and joyful as possible!
